Before you know it, a swarm of games like Dark Souls with sparse checkpoints and lethal attacks are scuttling around, leaving slime trails and biting your ankles for surprisingly massive damage. For starters, it is one of the best RPGs, with a lush open world waiting to be explored. Along comes a giant like Dark Souls that everybody won’t stop bleating about and soon it has copycats. Hopefully you guys can give me some suggestions. Dragon’s Dogma is like Dark Souls in terms of difficulty, but it’s entirely something else in other regards. Basically I'm looking for a third-person Skyrim with less talking and better, "Dark Souls-y" combat, but which isn't quite as punishing. I haven't actually played that many games in my life, so while I'm sure killing dudes in a helmet covers a fairly large amount of the medium, I'm not familiar with a lot of it. Something I can play when I'm exhausted from work and just want to kill a bunch of dudes while wearing a full-face helmet, and still have it feel cathartic and fun. Basically I'm looking for a game, similar in combat and "feel" to Dark Souls, but more mindless. Rather, the reason I'm asking is that Dark Souls requires a certain level of concentration and focus to play, and I find that sometimes I'm just not in the mood to think while I'm playing a game. I'm not asking this because I'm some scrub who died against the Taurus demon and doesn't want to keep playing. I love dark souls, and I'm fully aware that the challenge is an integral part of it.
